Setting up a Warehouse: Here are 5 Vastu Tips to keep in Mind

Vastu shastra is an ancient traditional Indian scientific system for architecture and planning which describes the principles of design, layout, measurements, ground preparation, space arrangement, and spatial geometry with respect to Hindu beliefs, mother nature, the relative functions of various parts of the structure, theories of geometric patterns, symmetry, and directional alignments. What makes Vastu so unique is that it is believed these designs have been experimented, tried, and tested for thousands of years by ancestors to bring positivity, peace, tranquility, and prosperity to their homes, businesses, towns, or cities.

Vastu incorporates everything from locations or sites where an individual or group plans to build something to the structural and architectural needs for the same. When choosing a site to build or lease a warehouse, Vastu mentions the importance of prosperity while deciding the place by making sure it's the right place for such an endeavor. For example, according to Vastu, it may not be a good idea to build a factory on a site that had previously been a battleground, since that may indirectly affect the business. True and experienced Vastu experts can measure the spirituality of a given space.

The city of Chandigarh is every architect’s dream vacation for its splendid planning and development. The city even though designed by a Swiss-French architect followed the Vastu guidelines which could be a reason why Chandigarh is India’s ‘wealthiest town’. Designing a city in India does not necessarily ensure its prosperity but cities like Jaipur and Chandigarh, which were planned considering Vastu science are extremely wealthy tourist attractions.

Similarly, many commercial and industrial campuses in India follow Vastu guidelines to prevent conflicts and other negative energies including theft and losses that could compromise its success.

It is advisable to build warehouses using Vastu principles and theories or make the necessary modifications. It is best advised to consult an expert but here are 5 tips that can help you decide faster if it could help businesses find out if the controversial topic of Vastu does have any effect on the holistic functioning of the business. Here are a few tips that may be helpful if constructing/leasing or restructuring a warehouse.

The layout of the warehouse

Even though most warehouses are by default shaped like a rectangle or square, some businesses make irregularly shaped warehouses to maximize storage space. This is against Vastu norms which states that irregular shapes will not maximize efficiency and could affect the business negatively as irregular shapes attract negative forces and are inauspicious to run a business with such a warehouse. Regular-shaped warehouses are the easiest to navigate through, maintain, and bring growth for the business.

Entries to the warehouse

The entrance ideally should be North or East facing. This is likely to happen when the warehouse is a room or a garage behind or inside the house of the owner. Structural changes, in this case, might prove to be very difficult or expensive if the entrance is not facing north or east, but instead south or west. In such cases, the business is likely to not succeed as the obstacles faced are maximum.

The 9 feet rule

This too is especially applicable to small warehouses, make sure that the warehouse height is greater than 9 feet. Having a height greater than 9 feet is essential for fresh air and positive energy to flow around the warehouse with windows on the east side and/or the north side. Such small details ensure a long way into the effective functioning of the warehouse as it prevents most ramifications that may occur in the long run.

Resource and goods allocation

It is advised to keep all the heavy machinery, raw materials, racks, and shelves in the south, south-west and west areas of the warehouse and let the finished final products take up space in the north and east side of the warehouse which is where the entry is ideally situated. This will ensure faster movement of goods, good profits, and propensity for the business.

Consult an expert

It is always advisable to talk to experts who have decades of experience as they can instantly tell what a warehouse could be doing wrong and what are the potential small-scale changes that could be made to alter any negativity, theft, or losses.
