Understanding Racks & Warehouse Storage

In today’s fast-paced and highly competitive markets, proper inventory management is paramount to streamlining warehouse operations. It is one of the many challenges faced by warehouse professionals, but it can be eased by selecting the right warehouse racking system.

The warehouse storage process is the movement of goods into their most appropriate storage space. However, this is easier said than done, warehouses often run out of storage space due to factors such as rapid growth, seasonal peaks, and slow sales. An efficient storage process in warehouses is critical because it ensures that you’re making full use of all the available space in your warehouse. Efficiency in warehouse storage also keeps the stocks organized without compromising productivity.

While choosing the right warehouse storage system ensures that your space is maximized while improving warehouse efficiency. Warehouse storage system totally depend upon the company’s requirement and accordingly different types of warehouse is designed to fulfil the need of the company and help up to pace the business:

  1. Standard Pallet Racking: With pallet warehouse racking, there is an ample space to move around while making the most of all available floor space. Pallet racking are the straightforward and efficient, ideal for high, medium and light loads.
  2. Drive in Racking: There are two operating systems for this racking, drive in and drive through racking and both works on same principle but the only difference is that drive in works from one side and drive through works from both side. The benefits of these racks are that these racking system doesn’t require forklift for access the one pallet, the driver can access the banks of pallets that can be efficient for warehouses of different sizes.
  3. Cantilever Racking: These types of racking are used for the long products like piping and rods, these items are more strenuous in the warehouse, so cantilever racking is an excellent solution for it.
  4. Carton Live Storage: It is also known as the carton flow racking system which works as a dynamic system and used for to speed up the collection process of the items or solutions in the warehouse. These storage systems work as FIFO (first in first out) technique meaning access is required from both sides to feed in and remove the goods.

Racks and storage systems are just one piece of the puzzle. Overall efficiency also depends on several other factors, such as the layout of the facility, the width of aisles, product demand, effective training to ensure the safe and efficient use of established racking systems, and much more. We’ve put together this comprehensive guide to warehouse racking to provide warehouse operators with different perspectives and strategies on maximizing the use of space and infrastructure to boost profits as well as the key variables operators can manipulate in order to improve results.
